What counts as unfair creditor hassle?

  • contacting you several times a day, or at unsociable hours
  • pursuing you on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook
  • putting pressure on you to pay all the money off, or in larger instalments when you can't afford to
  • threatening you physically or verbally
  • trying to embarrass you in public
  • implying that legal action can be taken when it can't.
  • giving the impression that court action has been taken against you when it hasn't
  • giving the impression that not paying the debt is a criminal offence (not true for most debts)

What can I do about it?

Come to us. We can write to your creditors, pointing out that they are in breach of the Financial Conduct Authority rules, and requiring them to contact you only in writing in future.

After that, you do need to open their letters and respond to them! If that thought troubles you, just bring all the letters to us - it will be huge relief, and your creditor will be much happier that someone is speaking to them.

If you'd like to write the letters yourself, you can find a template
